I-Level

Reggae

Biography

I-Level is a unique quartet of seemingly unrelated musical connections. The group is made up of Matt Jenson on keys: Matt teaches an entire class on Bob Marley at Berklee College and is completely addicted to Afro-Cuban and reggae music. Alex Alvear, from Equador, plays bass and is well-known in Boston for his bands Mango Blue, Manguito and more recently with his masterpiece, Equatorial. He is a manistay of the Boston (and beyond) Latin music scene. Manolo Mairena, from Costa Rica , plays percussion and is another mainstay of the Latin music scene in Boston and beyond. Gabe Jones, from somewhere in the deep south, is an incredible drumset player and outstanding student of Matt's with a reggae and neo-soul pocket as fat as can be. All 4 are incredible singers! The group plays HIGH-LEVEL reggae, dub and neo-soul originals and versions of cover tunes from Who the Cap Fit to What's Goin' On, to Calle Luna Calle Sol (a Latin standard,) to I Can’t Stand Loosing You (Police). It's an electrifying cross mixing of multi-cultural talent and soul!
