The Spurs
Western Swing/Country/Rockabilly
Biography
The Spurs formed in 1997, quickly became a sensation on the club scene
playing western
swing, honky tonky, and hillbilly boogie, and their CD, Go, Boy, Go!
was released in 2000 on Nashville's Spinout label to unanimous rave
reviews. The album made end-of-the-year Top Ten lists at both the
Boston Phoenix and online magazine Miles of Music. In 2001, the Boston
Music Awards nominated The Spurs as
the best country act category. But the band must be seen live to
be fully appreciated. DJ Brian
Sinclair of the long-running Hillbilly at Harvard radio show has called
The Spurs "the best live act I've seen in 30 years of clubgoing."
The band continues to play around the Boston area both at club
appearances and private events.
Quotes
- "The Spurs knock those in the
audience dead with an intoxicating mix of authentic western swing and
country boogie tunes just this side of Bob Wills and Tennessee Ernie
Ford....Quite simply, they kick honky tonk butt!"
